The weather in Bristol Bay finally broke through, as we experienced one of the nicest fishing weeks of the season. We had a lot of big big rainbows coming out of the Tikchik and Agulukpak Rivers. The Agulukpak is beginning to fish well as the spawning sockeye are just beginning to drop their eggs. The Upper Nushagak was the Dolly Varden factory once again, with the occasional leopard rainbow trout. Kash Creek also produced a ton of dollies and some big rainbows.
Our Silver Mine Camp on the Nushagak River got hot toward middle of the week with anglers limiting out on silver salmon everyday. The Kulukak River, where Tikchik has a semi-exclusive permit, is open for business – as there are a good number of big silvers running. Guests are also seeing more bears (mostly from the air), as the rivers are chalk full of salmon. It is a great time of the year in Southwest Alaska. It’s prime time for silver salmon, and the trout fishing is fantastic. Thank you to all our guests from week 7 for adding to the adventure and legend of Tikchik Narrows Lodge.
