Our History
Tikchik Narrows Lodge was founded in 1969 by Bob and Gayle Curtis, pioneers of Alaska sport fishing. Bob, who had flown anglers from their Wood River Lodge to the Tikchik Narrows for years, believed it was the best fishing in the area. Inspired by the view from a rock knoll on the peninsula, he dreamt of building a lodge there, and in 1969, he did just that, selling Wood River Lodge to focus on Tikchik.
In 1986, Bob and Gayle sold the lodge to Bud Hodson, a former employee who had worked there from 1975-1978. After managing Golden Horn Lodge for several years, Bud returned to take over Tikchik, where he led the lodge for 36 successful years. In 2022, the legacy of Tikchik Narrows was passed to Andy Angstman, a local Alaskan with decades of experience fishing and flying throughout the area, who continues to offer guests an unforgettable experience in this remarkable wilderness.
